A new home

Wow.  Holistic Feathers has a new home!

OK, OK … I know it doesn’t look like much right now  – we have more than few crinkle-wrinkles to iron out over the next few days but we hope you like the serene, natural feeling of our new home, we are thrilled to see you visit us.

I have to confess I have putting the move off for such a long time now: three months, at least.  I love Wordpress and have been blogging using their free blogs for a couple of years and I desperately yearned to have our blog AND our website as one; after all, we are in the business of empowering others, passing on tidbits and the latest news in the natural beauty and energy healing world.

With people feeling the pinch as the global economy goes through its ups and downs, I had to make a decision.  Keep with our old site for another year (not really an option as it just didn’t work for us, really) or pay a professional to do it, or do it myself.  Similar to our clients, paying for a professional was a little bit unrealistic.  So DIY was the option we plumped for …  move back to Wordpress using a template created by a genius, hosted by the awesome OpenMindedSolutions and figuring out the installation all by myself.

Of course, the longer I put off the deed, the more anxious I felt …

With our old website having died over a week ago, time was running out.  So this morning, as I saw a ladybird sitting cosily on a bush in our garden as I returned home, I knew it had to be today.  Ladybirds = good luck: today was the day to get moving Holistic Feathers to her new home.  Armed with a cup of tea, copious notes and the template folder (filled with lots of tinkering – I have been really busy learning new skills these past two weeks in graphic design!) I sat down and nervously logged in to a scary-looking control panel.

I am not an expert at programming or anything remotely technical – but I adore tinkering about. However, I eventually had to cave in at step no. 4 and a knight on a white horse (Chris from OpenMindedSolutions) came riding to my rescue and patiently sorted out FTP issues.

And so here we are … three hours later, Holistic Feathers is in her lovely new home although I am still working out how to remove the white Holistic Feathers header from the template!

What can I share with you from this experience?

That we CAN do anything! OK, it might take us a little (lot?!) longer than professionals but if your heart is really set on achieving something, then nothing can stop you – its amazing what a dose of willingness can do.  I was willing to try and happily, with a little help from the professionals, we are almost there.  Hurrah!! What a great way to end the week.
