In the spotlight – Tackling Obesities: Future Choices
The subject of obesity has been very much in the media spotlight again just recently, following the publication of the Foresight report Tackling Obesities : Future Choices.
The obesity review drew some stark conclusions, including the estimate that by 2050 60%of adult men, 50% of adult women and 25% of children could be clinically obese.
The report stressed the role of our “obesogenic” society in perpetuating the problem, arguing that we must fight the notion that the situation arises from laziness or over-indulgence alone.
Following the Foresight paper, proposed Government plans hit the headlines; reports said schoolchildren would be weighed and letters sent to parents if there was cause for concern.
